The oil level of a sealed cartridge is the basic height required during
assembly to properly purge the cartridge before closing it.It is measured between the top of the cartridge and the oil level.

The oil level of an open cartridge is measured with the stanchion
depressed and the rod extended to its maximum. It is measured between the
top of the stanchion and the oil level.
